IT'S ALL ABOUT THE BEES! WHY YOU ASK? Well without bees...there are no flowers! As botanical artists, most of us have an awareness of the plant/pollinator relationship. However, there are many types of bees and reasons why we should know more. Shevaun is an incredible resource for this because of her interest in bees. "Using Botanical art to raise Awareness is something I feel passionate about. In 2015, I designed the cover logo for the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan, a nationwide plan to make Ireland a place where pollinators thrive and survive. Bees are very important to our environment and their numbers are declining at an alarming rate. One of the objectives of the plan is to raise awareness about the decline and the actions needed to save bees, so I try to incorporate this aspect into my work.My proudest achievement to date has been to design a set of Irish postage stamps featuring native Irish bees, launched in 2018. This involved doing a lot of research into the different types of bees and their habitats." This session Shevaun will show us her work with bees and plants and also demo how to paint bees. She will be following this session up in September with another Beyond the Brush session as well as a 3-hour workshop Saturday September 12th. We will be posting a sign up for this after Shevaun's workshop on Wednesday.
