Milkweed Journey: From Concept to Exhibition

Colorado artist Mary Crabtree will share with us the steps she has taken for her ongoing project on milkweeds. From research and reference material, preliminary sketches and graphite studies, to completed watercolors, we'll learn what is involved in creating a coordinated series suitable for exhibition.

Mary Crabtree, SBA Fellow, has studied botanical art and illustration with the Denver Botanic Gardens, Colorado, USA, the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh, UK, and with renowned botanical artists worldwide. Her artwork has been exhibited in juried exhibitions in the USA and UK. Working in watercolor, graphite and colored pencil, Mary’s artwork focuses on depicting the beauty and rugged character of native plants and wildflowers. Through her artwork she hopes to highlight the value of these flora in our planet’s ecosystems, focusing attention on the crucial interdependencies of nature.
