2nd NESBA Weekend Retreat - Harwich MA - March 21-23, 2025

$100.00

We are excited to invite you to the 2nd NESBA Weekend Retreat on March 21-23, 2025 at The 204, a cultural arts center in Harwich on Cape Cod.

Come enjoy the camaraderie of fellow artists, and the quiet of Cape Cod in the offseason. The 204 is close to beaches, woods, a bike path and many conservation areas. Lodgings are at winter rates, restaurants aren’t crowded and the traffic jams are few.

Some wonderful programs have been planned. In addition to learning from some really talented people, the weekend is really about celebrating the reason why we are all part of the New England Society of Botanical Artists: spending time with other botanical artists painting, being inspired, catching up and networking.  Please come and join us for this wonderful event.

Schedule:

Friday, March 21, 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM:  This is open time for you to settle in, relax and create. A table of flowers encompassing the color wheel will be set up.  Working on small squares of paper (provided) we’ll mix the colors of the flower and leaves.  This self-directed exercise is a great warm-up and it’s fascinating to compare color mixes.

Saturday, March 22, 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM Watercolor Beach Composite with Betsy Rogers-Knox.  This workshop on creating a beach habitat in watercolor is suitable for all skill levels. Learn techniques to create interesting texture for driftwood, sand, rocks, shells and other beach subjects.  A drawing template will be provided which may be transferred in advance. A variety of objects will be available if you prefer to create your own small beach composite. Feel free to bring your own items if you’d like.  With step-by-step instruction and plenty of individual attention you’ll leave with a small painting as a reminder of the unique and special environment of the Cape.  Read more about Betsy Rogers-Knox here.

Sunday, March 23, 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM Jack in the Pulpit in Colored Pencil on Dura-Lar with Kathie Miranda.  Kathie uses Dura-lar film to create an image that appears to be 3D. This technique involves working 2 sheets of Dura-Lar on both sides and flipping the various layers to create the intended effect.   Sounds complicated but it isn’t once you get the hang of it.  It’s great fun and a good brain exercise too!  Read more about Kathie and her technique here.

Registation Fee of $100 includes the workshops, Saturday and Sunday morning pastry, tea, coffee, and lunches.
